U 23 GMS Summer Camp 2008
 
GMS Rowing Center has produced U 23 World Championship medals and placement in the finals at the U23 worlds over the last two years. The camp’s purpose is to give young athletes the opportunity to race at the highest possible level and participate at the U 23 national team trials successfully. Furthermore, the camp will support all participants to race in other regattas during the summer as mapped out below.

Cost:     $850
Includes: coaching, boats, use of Facility
Not included : housing*, food, travel, regattas and fees, accommodation at regattas.
*GMS Rowing Center will help find inexpensive housing.

Camp Framework:

  • 6 Participants lwt. Women
  • 8 Participants lwt. Men
  • 4 Participants hwt. Women
  • 4 Participants hwt. Men
  • All athletes applying for the U23 Camp must be born on or after January 1, 1986.
  • Clubs/Participants are urged to support the program with singles and/or doubles and/or private boats
  • Goal: Qualify boats for the U 23 World Championships, Race U 23 National Team Trials, Independence Day Regatta, Club Nationals / U 23 Worlds.
  • Boat categories:

    1. SFB ltw. : 1x; 2x
    2. SFB hwt.: 1x; 2x
    3. SMB ltw.: 1x; 2x; 4x-
    4. SMB hwt.: 1x; 2x

  • All Participants are racing in one or two of these Categories for the summer season.
  • Camp criteria:

    1. Erg Scores

    • SFB ltw.: sub 7:35
    • SFB hwt.: sub 7:15
    • SMB ltw.: sub 6:35
    • SMB hwt.: sub 6:15

    2. Boat Performance

    • Racing a single competitively

Camp Structure:
Training 1- 3 times a day. Core session @ 7:00 AM Monday - Sunday

First/Second Week:

  • 2k Erg Test; Single Time Trials, Double Races; [Quad Races]
  • Identify CREWS

After First/Second Week:

  • Training in identified CREWS
  • Racing in identified CREWS

Selection Structure:

  • Erg-Test 2k
  • Time-Trial 2k in 1x
  • Building double crews based on Erg-Test and 1x-Trials results
  • Race doubles / change seats and race doubles again
  • Build quad crews based on double race results
  • Race quads / change seats and race again

Lineups of all crews for remainder of the season will be decided after the Erg Test, the 1x time-trials and all seat racing.

Coaches will be assigned to groups of crews. (Guest-Coaches and Home-Coaches are welcome).
