GMS Hosts US Rowing Under 23 Lightweight Men’s Selection
and Development Camp
June 6th 2007
GMS Rowing Center is proud to host
the US Rowing Under 23 Selection & Development Camp to New
Milford from June 6th to July 21st 2007. The camp is under the
direction of Marc DeRose from Columbia University and James Mangan,
founder of O.A.R.S, a non-profit organization whose purpose is
funding training for athletes aspiring to the US Olympic Team.
Mangan coached last year’s Lightweight Men’s Quad
to a silver medal.
The goal of the camp is athlete
selection to several boats that will compete internationally in
the Under 23 World Championships to be held in Strathclyde, Scotland
in July. The arduous selection process will start with a first
cut to determine 18 places or “seats”. Selected athletes
will then train and be divided to an Elite category, going on
to Under-23 World boats or to a Development Group, identified
as future National team prospects.
GMS welcomes
this year’s athletes and coaches and wishes them the best
of luck with their training and results.
