GMS coached rowers qualify the Women’s Double Scull for
Beijing Olympics
September 2nd 2007
Yesterday at the World Rowing Championships
in Munich, Germany Ala Piotrowski and Jen Kaido qualified the
Women’s Double Scull (2x) for the Beijing Olympics. Ala
and Jen are members of the US Rowing National Team based in Princeton
NJ but spend a portion of their training time in New Milford at
GMS Rowing Center. They are coached by Guenter Beutter the Technical
Director and co-founder of GMS.
This is a tremendous achievement
for Ala and Jen and an especially satisfying one for Ala who missed
qualifying for the last Olympics by a fraction of a second. In
Munich, they qualified by 0.07 second, beating Australia to clinch
a place in 2008. With the boat qualified, their next task is to
win the doubles trials next spring to ensure they will be the
pair that will travel to Beijing.
This is also a major achievement
for GMS as it brings recognition and affirmation of the high level
of coaching skill that Beutter brings to the sport. This season
two GMS high school rowers competed in Beijing at the Junior World
Championships, three students won scholarships to college and
the Club had a record number of boats at regional and national
championships.
GMS congratulates Guenter, Ala
and Jen, wishing them every success during the countdown to the
US qualifying trials.
