ROWING
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GMS HIGH SCHOOL ROWERS
Jacqui Lindo
a New Milford High Senior has won a rowing scholarship to the prestigious
St. Mary’s College, California. This is a Division 1 rowing
college and the competition for places was extremely high.
Jacqui only started rowing at the beginning of
2006 but her potential was quickly recognized by Guenter Beutter,
Technical Director and founder of GMS Rowing Center.
This is the second rowing scholarship awarded
to a student from New Milford High School.
Adam Kobayashi
a student at Canterbury School won a rowing scholarship to the highly
regarded Colgate College. This is again a [Division 1 rowing college]
with fierce competition for places.
Adam has been rowing at GMS for three years during
which time he has won numerous medals. Last year he was a member
of a quad (four man scull) who came fourth at the National Junior
Championships in Indianapolis just missing a medal by a fraction
of a second
Taylor Fries
is a student of Staples High School, Westport but comes to New Milford
for training. She has won a place at Wisconsin State University
as part of their light-weight women’s program. This program
has an unbeaten record in recent years and Taylor did extremely
well to gain admission.
Guenter Beutter has been Taylor’s
coach for the last four years during which time she has won numerous
medals championships.
GMS Rowing Center at New Milford is delighted
to have helped these young athletes and the many others who gained
college admission with the help of their crew/rowing credentials.
With some of the best rowing water in the Northeast and excellent
coaching GMS look forward to helping many more students to achieve
their ambitions
