2009 GMS Challenge Handicap System

The handicap system factors in the Head of the Charles results, 10k Course and actual results of competitive rowers. It has also been tested over the Championship course.

We are confident it does not favor or discriminate across the ages and as such it gives an equal chance to all participants.

Rules for Lightweight Qualification

These are the same as for the HOCR.

The rules at the time of posting are:

....In the interest of health and safety, the Managing Directors of the Head Of The Charles Regatta reviewed the lightweight women's HOCR weigh-in requirements. In order to keep lightweight women's HOCR requirements more consistent with spring racing requirements, the Managing Directors agreed to lower the maximum weight and eliminate the average for all women's lightweight crews. For the 2007 regatta, lightweight women's fours and eights must weigh in at no more than 133 pounds, with no averaging. The lightweight men's weigh-in requirement will remain the same; rowers' weights average not over 160 pounds, none over 170 pounds.....

...Lightweight Singles: Men: not over 160 lbs. Women: not over 130 lbs.

Lightweight Fours/Eights: Men: rowers' weights average not over 160 lbs., none over 170 lbs.; Women: rowers' weights not over 133 lbs., no averaging. No person (coxswain included) enrolled in high school...
